Jon "BONES" Jones

Nine weeks after beating Mauricio “Shogun” Hua in Newark, New Jersey at UFC 128, I had the opportunity to photograph Jon Jones in Las Vegas, NV.

His schedule was packed and I had an hour to photograph Jon so I set up at Wanderlei Silva’s gym and we shot some portraits for one of his sponsors for 30 minutes and the rest of the images were all movement and classic portraits.

I asked Jon to move toward me as if I was his opponent and throw punches right at my lens. Jon obliged and this was the first shot I captured. In that moment, I saw everything that his opponents saw and I understood what made him a lethal fighter.

The perfect accuracy, the laser focus, the length of his strike and his roller-skate slickness when he moved toward me. Seeing all of that, I knew Jon was going to stay as Champion for a while. A long while.

12 years later, he’s an undefeated, double champion.
