Forrest Griffin

November 14, 2007 - Las Vegas, NV

Forrest and I were introduced by Chuck Liddell during fight week for UFC 76, Liddell vs Jardine in Anaheim, CA, and we hit it off. I’m a born and raised Southern GA boy and Forrest graduated both Evans High School and from the University of Georgia in Augusta, plus he was a cop in Augusta, so we had some common Southern GA. likes.

I didn’t know what to expect when I met him as I had just seen the Ultimate Fighter fight with Stephan Bonner, that literally changed everything for the UFC but I quickly learned that he was very witty, smart, and good natured. He also didn’t take himself too seriously and that was a big part of his charm and how he moved. That was the thing that made people love and care about Forrest.

When we reconnected in Las Vegas, for me to document a little of his life, he said to me, “Now, don’t go thinking you’re about to see something spectacular or some flashy made for TV lifestyle. I’m actually just getting back to training as I had shoulder surgery and I’m going to see my Dr. and doing rehab today.”

That’s where we started. Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, listening to his Dr talk about the success of the surgery, what he fixed, the pins he removed and how easy he wants Forrest to take getting back to training.

The look on his face was a classic “Yeah Right..I’m doing this rehab then I’m going to train.” and that was the portrait I wanted to capture from Forrest. I needed that portrait that said;

”Look at my face and know that I hear you, I’m listening to you, but I’m going to do this my way.”

That’s what got Forrest to the heights of MMA and I wouldn’t expected anything less from an O.G.
